* Labor and Liberal MPs along with Jewish groups have condemned attacks by Islamist group Hamas on Israel, dubbed 'Israel's 9/11'
* The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is trying to determine if Australians have been caught in the conflict
* Israeli media reports at least 700 people have been killed by Hamas while Gazan authorities say 500 died in Israel's retaliatory attacks
* Australians have been advised not to travel to Gaza and those wishing to visit Israel and other occupied Palestinian territories have been told to exercise a high degree of caution
* Australians have shown their support for Palestine by attending rallies in Western Sydney on Sunday, and many more are expected to attend another protest on Monday in the city's CBD.
* Meanwhile, the Sydney Opera House's sails, South Australia's Parliament House and Adelaide Oval, Brisbane's Story Bridge, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the National Gallery of Victoria and the Old Treasury Building will be lit up in white and blue on Monday in support of Israel.
