When John Williamson wandered into Richmond's GTV9 studios in 1970 with a guitar under his arm, the Mallee farmer had no idea he'd make a more than 50-year career out of singing and performing.

Half a century on, he has made an art of expertly capturing Australia in song and will make his way to Bendigo later this month with his 'Winding Back' tour.
Mr Williamson said after 52 albums and tours across the country, it was time to settle down.
'While I'm not looking to retire just yet, once I've completed the Winding Back Tour I'll be scaling down my live appearances,' he said.
'I've always loved the connection I receive when performing, so you'll still see me popping up at festivals and special events.
"'Winding Back' means I'm looking forward to spending more time in the garden and less time away from home."
Mr Williamson the Greater Bendigo region held a special place in his heart.
"I've performed in Bendigo a number of times and really enjoyed going back a bit closer to home," he said.
Other stories:
"As a boy from Quambatook, I know a lot of people who have moved to Bendigo and you just need to look to see how amazing a place it is."
Painting lyrical pictures of our unique fauna and flora, landscapes and people, Mr Williamson has encapsulated the beauty, wonder and, sometimes, heartbreak of life Down Under.
From boabs to billabongs and snowy mountains to sandy beaches, the songwriter's albums - including 20 original studio albums - have traversed Australia like a dust-covered road train, deftly moving between larrikin humour and touching pathos.
His tour will take him to regional cities such as Ballarat, Warrnambool, Geelong and more.
Mr Williamson will be performing at the Ulumburra Theatre on February 19.
