STORMS swept across the state late Wednesday afternoon, bringing some much needed rain to central Victoria after several above 30 degree days.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the wild weather - which is set to continue - earlier on Wednesday, warning people to prepare for possibly heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.
It also warned damaging winds could cross over the area of concern.
Proven correct, storms lashed the region and fires caused by lightning strikes started to erupt. It also saw upwards of 50 millimetres of rain arrive in areas previously parched from a series of hot days.
Overnight, Malmsbury Headwall recorded 56.2 millimetres in the 60 minutes to 5:15am, Springhill-Tylden Road recorded 23 millimetres in 30 minutes to 5:45am and Trentham Reservoir recorded 38.6 millimetres in 60 minutes to 6am.
As storms continue through BoM warned Victorians of the risk of intense rainfalls, particularly on Friday.
