Bendigo Police Sergeant Matthew Ornston said a male was allegedly driving erratically before the crash.
"The (incident) involved a man driving a black Holden Cruze, which resulted in a collision and one person being taken to hospital for medical treatment," he said.
The man is believed to have crashed his vehicle on Bendigo-Maryborough Road, Shelbourne at 1.45am.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said paramedics treated a man - believed to be aged in his 30s - for lower body and arm injuries.
"He was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition," the spokesperson said.
Sergeant Ornston said the investigation is currently ongoing.
He asked if anyone had any information in relation to the crash or if anyone had dash-cam footage, if they could contact Bendigo Police Senior Constable Bailey on 5448 1300.
