However, the Western Australian has received a wildcard entry into next week's ITF Women's 60 event at the Bendigo Tennis Centre and can't wait to get back into the swing of things.
The rising star already has junior national titles to her name as well as several other international achievements.
Fresh off finishing Year 12, Gibson's eyes are now firmly set on the tennis court.
"Even just to be back travelling around the country for tournaments has already brought on a real buzz," Gibson said.
"I've put plenty of effort into finishing Year 12 and now that it's all done and I've received a wildcard entry into the tournament I am really quite excited to compete against some great players and get back into tennis."
More sport:
The action commences on Monday for both men and women and at this stage the women's singles final will be held on Saturday January 8 with the men's singles and other finals held on Sunday.
The weather forecast for Friday and Saturday will see the mercury hover around 38 degrees before it eases back down to the low 30s on Monday for the first day of competitive play.
Gibson was hard at work on the hard courts at the Fosterville Gold Tennis Centre on Friday morning in the scorching heat - but that didn't phase the determined teenager from losing sight of her goal.
"I've just come from 42 degree heat over in Western Australia so it all feels pretty normal for me," Gibson laughed.
"This week my aim is to take everything I can get out of the experience.
"I am going to put lots of work in during these matches and do my best to learn everything I can.
"No matter what it will allow me to come back even better and stronger."
Among the women's field includes top seed Katarzyna Kawa (Poland), Aliona Bolsova (Spain), Cristina Bucsa (Spain), Alexandra Osborne (Australia), Alana Parnaby (Australia) and CoCo Vandeweghe (USA).
Some players will need to find success during qualifying rounds to qualify for the main draw.
The draw for both tournaments are yet to be finalised.
Tickets are now on sale for the event at the Bendigo Visitor Centre, with prices starting at $5 for an adult daily pass or $25 for a weekly all-access ticket.
Meanwhile junior tickets start at $5 for a daily pass and $15 for weekly admission to all games.
Tickets can also be purchased at the gate.
