Hoskin's rink has played five times for five wins and he's the only unbeaten skipper in the competition.

The South Bendigo premiership player was quick to laud the three other players in his rink - lead Wayne Marwood, second Malcom Darroch, who is Hoskin's grandfather, and third Greg Sherman.

"It's been a great start,'' Hoskin said.

"The boys have bowled really well each week. Wayne (Marwood) has got us off to a great start, Pa (Malcolm Darroch) is very consistent and Shermo (Greg Sherman) finishes it off. My job has been pretty easy."

The most remarkable statistic for Hoskin's rink through five matches is the fact it's only conceded 60 shots in total.

20 of those 60 shots came in a high-scoring 29-20 win over Kangaroo Flat's Cameron Wilson.

"We pride ourselves on only dropping one or two shots if we lose an end,'' Hoskin said.

"I think we've kept a couple of teams to single figures... so we're happy with the way we're going."

It's the second season the group of four have bowled together.

"We've been building to this,'' Hoskin said.

"Last year we played together and the boys bowled really well, but I didn't finish it off for them.

"Then we got to the state champs and were undefeated there.

"We've built off that in the pennant season this year."

While there's plenty of hard work that's gone into the rink's success, Hoskin said the group's friendship was just as important as their bowls ability.

"We train together Tuesdays and Thursdays, but I think for us it's more about the team chemistry we have on game day,'' Hoskin said.

"We have the same sort of temperaments and we got on really well together."

Chasing a hat-trick of division one premierships, South Bendigo is in second place on the ladder behind the unbeaten Moama.

Hoskin said South Bendigo had plenty of room for improvement.

"I think we've only had one game where we've put it all together across the four rinks,'' Hoskin said.

"Hopefully, in the new year we start playing full games.

"Moama is very strong and we play them the first weekend back, so we're looking forward to that challenge.

"It's a pretty even competition this year. If you take someone lightly, or you're slightly off your game, you can get jumped and it's hard to get back into it.

"We've found that a couple of times this year. There's a lot of good teams and a lot of good players in the competition this year... it's great for the competition."

Pennant action resumes with a bumper double-header weekend on January 8-9.

Round eight on Saturday, January 8 is highlighted by the clash between Eaglehawk and Inglewood, while Sunday's play features the top-of-the-table game between Moama and South Bendigo.
