What's making news?
When Rotary Clubs around Australia celebrated 100 years of Rotary in Australia, the Rotary Club of Bendigo decided to celebrate the milestone with a grand gesture within their local community.
While many fundraising options have been closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the decision was made to continue with the plan and the 100 Acts of Kindness, an initiative first raised within the Rotary District 9800, was enacted in 2021.
Club President Tom Dobeli decided to continue the initiative and the Rotary Club of Bendigo again purchased gift cards from IGA Strathfieldsaye and Mitre 10 Golden Square.
"These great local institutions matched our contribution, effectively doubling the impact of the initiative to help those in our community in most need," he said.
Immobile patients at East Wimmera Health Service's Wycheproof Campus will be able to be moved comfortably thanks to a recent equipment donation.
The Wycheproof Cancer Support Group, Op Shop and Resource Centre managed to raise enough funds to purchase a new Air Comfort Deluxe V2, valued at $4000.
Nurse unit manager Annie Handley said the equipment had been on the staff's "wish list" for a long time.
"Having this chair in the hospital will make an enormous difference for our staff, patients and their families," she said.
"It's more than a standard wheel chair - it's completely adjustable and comfortable enough to suit anyone's needs."
