Lucas Herbert started Monday's opening day of the inaugural Sandbelt Invitational with a five-over par round.
Herbert, who is back in Australia fresh off his debut win on the US PGA Tour, shot a two-over par 38 on the front-nine at Kingston Heath before finishing the day with a three-over 39 on the back to sit T32 (77).
Only six players in the 60-plus field broke par on the opening day, with Blake Collyer taking the lead with a six-under par, one shot in front of Brady Wyatt (-5).
The event will be played over four days at four different Melbourne sandbelt courses.
For round two on Tuesday at Royal Melbourne (West) Herbert tees up at 12.30pm alongside tournament host Geoff Ogilvy and amateur Belinda Ji.
The third round on Wednesday is at Yarra Yarra while the final round will be hosted at Peninsula Kingswood.
