An alert was issued earlier in the day for residents to listen in to emergency broadcasts under Stay Informed advice at locations in Boort, Catumnal, Lake Marmal, Terrappee, Nareewillock and Wychitella North.
The fire started this morning along Glenloth Road and spread over about 220 hectares, with smoke visible in surrounding communities.
A spokeswoman for the CFA said four water bombing aircraft tackled the blaze from the sky, with a helicopter on the scene supervising. At one stage there were 35 vehicles at the scene or on their way to the fire ground.
Firefighters are still on the scene this evening, blacking out hot spots.
The CFA earlier urged people in the area to keep the roads clear so emergency vehicles could respond.
