Clohesy has been the Suns best batter in the first XI season as an opener, but on Wednesday night against Sandhurst he batted at number seven in a revamped Suns' line-up, while regular number three Waldron dropped to number nine.
The move turned out to be a winning one for the Suns after they slumped to 7-68 in the 14th over chasing Sandhurst's total of 7-126.
Clohesy signaled his intentions by hitting the fifth and sixth balls he faced for six.
The classy duo eased the pressure by finding the boundary regularly. There was only one over in their partnership where they didn't find, or go over, the rope.
They used the open spaces of the QEO to their advantage and ran hard between the wickets.
Clohesy and Waldron added 62 from 34 balls to guide Strathdale over the line with five balls to spare.
Clohesy hit four sixes in his unbeaten 39 off 18 balls, while Waldron finished 24 not out off 19 balls.
Young Sandhurst paceman Reilley Porter had earlier put the Suns on the back foot by taking 3-19.
Dylan Gibson top scored for the Dragons with 33 off 37 balls and impressive teenager Jasper Langley made 31 off 26 balls.
Another exciting young prospect, Jack Pysing, was the pick of Strathdale's bowlers with 2-19 off his four overs, including the prized scalp of big hitter Ash Gray for four. Sam Johnston (2-21) also bowled well.

In pool one, Strathfieldsaye stamped itself as the team to beat when it crushed Eaglehawk by nine wickets at Canterbury Park.
The Jets bowled out the home side for just 102, thanks largely to spinner Savith Priyan's fine spell of 4-13 off four overs.
The Hawks were 0-38 before Pryian struck and the Hawks lost 6-25.
Ben Archbold (27) and Russell Stockdale (25 off 17) were the only Borough batters to fire.
In reply, the Jets only needed 12.5 overs to seal victory.
Tim Wood continued his good form and finished 50 not out off 34 balls, while Abe Sheahan made 31 not out off 27 balls.
The T20 competition continues on Thursday night at the QEO, with Bendigo and Bendigo United doing battle in a pool two encounter from 6pm.
