The one-bedroom units are high-standard properties that will allow renters to avoid the need to move on to another service provider
Consumer affairs minister Melissa Horne said everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to live.
"This accommodation provides a secure and long-term home for those who need it most," she said.
"These new social housing units will make a huge impact on the quality of life for older Victorians, giving them the security, support and amenities they need to thrive."
Constructions of the units was completed in October, 2020, thanks to a $795,000 grant from the Victorian Property Fund.
Not-for-profit organisation Wintringham Housing used the grant to help address the issue of elderly homelessness with the new units adjoining an existing affordable accommodation development.
The new properties come following a state government announcement that 120 new social, affordable and private homes would be built in Virginia Hill, Eaglehawk, as part of the $1.25 billion Big Housing Build project.
The Heathcote district has experience a significant shortage of long-term, age-appropriate housing with the new properties to help fill that gap.
The units are location 600 metres from shops and 850 metres from the hospital and boast environmentally- sustainable design features to help reduce utility bills.
Heathcote Lions Club, Heathcote Health, Heathcote and Nagambie Community Bank, and the City of Greater Bendigo also contributed to the project.
