GREATER Bendigo has recorded 12 new cases of coronavirus, but the total active case tally dropped to 86.

There were six cases recorded in the postcode of 3550, three in 3551, one in 3555, and two in 3556.

The Macedon Rangers recorded another four, the Mount Alexander Shire recorded two and Campaspe Shire recorded two.

There was one more cases recorded in the Buloke Shire on Saturday, as did the Central Goldfields.

VICTORIA has recorded 1166 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday.

Sadly, there were another five deaths.

A total of 55 people are currently in intensive care units and 24 are on ventilators.

There were 6920 vaccinations administered and the number of people who have had both jabs sits at around 4.8 million.

In the last 24 hours, 64,050 test results have been received.

The 10 local government areas with the highest number of new cases are Hume, Wyndham, Brimbank, Whittlesea, Melton, Casey, Greater Dandenong, Port Phillip, Glen Eira and Melbourne.

Greater Bendigo has recorded 10 new cases of coronavirus on Friday, taking the region's tally to 135.

The Macedon Rangers recorded another five, the Mount Alexander Shire recorded two and Campaspe Shire recorded eight.

Central Goldfields Shire recorded zero new cases.

Bendigo's Jeanette Bennett has been working to make more than 700 eye soothing pillows to help frontline workers.

"I was watching the project one night and one of the nurses was in tears because she was so tired, felt unappreciated and undervalued," Ms Bennett said.

"I also saw one from the Bendigo hospital speaking the other day and she said she felt the same way.

"So I sent the hospital an email and said I'd found these little patterns for soothing eye pillows and asked if they would accept them if I made them."

"The lady from the hospital said they would be more than happy to accept them because they felt no one cared, I wanted them to know I was at least one person that did."

So Ms Bennett got to work and has now made 750 masks to send to Bendigo Health, St John of God Hospital and plans to make more for ambulance workers and more.
