Double Bendigo Spirit WNBL Championship player Maddie Garrick knows what it takes to find success on the basketball court.
After winning back-to-back titles with the Spirit between 2012-14, in addition to coming off six seasons with the Melbourne Boomers, Garrick is back in Bendigo for the upcoming season.
"I feel like I've come back to the Spirit as a different person," the 29-year old guard said.
"I am a better player with more experience and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to bring my skills to the team to ensure a successful season."
Since leaving the Spirit at the end of the 2014 season, Garrick represented Australia several times as an Opal, was a key member on the country's 3x3 squad, but recent experience as a co-captain for the Boomers gave her insight she plans to put into play this season.
"During the past two years in my leadership role at the Boomers it helped me learn even more about the game, but to also focus on my teammates and how to prepare a squad to ensure we get the best out of each other," Garrick said.
"I am going to do everything I can for us to succeed, but also come back to Bendigo to squeeze out all the juices I have left.
"I know that I have so much more to give to the team."
Spirit head into the 2021/22 on the back of a winless stretch in the WNBL hub-style season in Queensland.
The team this year has a mixture of new players in the way of Anneli Maley and Carly Boag who've been paired with returning players Tessa Lavey, Cassidy McLean and Mary Goulding.
Garrick believed the team possessed the perfect balance of experience and knowledge for the club to return to its winning ways.
"Practice sessions have been amazing," she said.
"Every time we go into a new season the focus is always to win and be successful and I believe we have the right team environment and culture to get it done."
Spirit commence the season-proper with an away game against reigning champions Southside Flyers on Saturday December 4.
