THE Heathcote District Football-Netball League is retaining its under-18 age group for next season.
Having been an under-17 competition since 1987, the HDFNL this year reverted to an under-18 format.
The decision was made in August last year in an effort to avoid a potential mass exodus of players seeking to go elsewhere - such as the neighbouring Bendigo and Loddon Valley leagues that both have under-18s - for a final year of under-age football after the entire 2020 season was cancelled due to the cornoavrius pandemic.
While the change to under-18s was initially only made for just the 2021 season, the HDFNL has confirmed following "lengthy discussions" at a board meeting on Monday night it will remain next year.
Huntly was the dominant team of the HDFNL under-18 competition this year.
In what was a COVID-impacted season cut short before the finals could get under way, the undefeated Hawks were recognised as the minor premiers for finishing on top of the ladder.
Meanwhile, North Bendigo will reflect on its 1980s decade with a function to be held at its clubrooms later this month.
The Bulldogs' Electric 80s will feature two of the club's stars of the decade, three-time best and fairest winner and gun forward Andrew McClennan and 1984 best and fairest David Graham, as guest speakers.
The function will be held at the Bulldogs' Atkins Street social rooms from noon on Saturday, November 27.
Tickets are $30 and feature a two-course meal and can be booked by contacting Scott Pysing on 0400 568 311.
