THE Bendigo Blue Ribbon First Cross Sale was labelled a huge success with about 34,550 head of sheep passing through the saleyards on Friday.

It was the first year the sale was held in a single day, with previous years seeing a yarding of 15,000 sheep on the Wednesday and another 15,000 on the Friday.
Bendigo Livestock Exchange manager Andrew McCulloch described the sale as fantastic.

"It was bigger than last year," he said.
"Previously we had the bigger agents Nutrien and Elders on the Wednesday and the independents sold together on the Friday.
"This is the first year we combined all of them on the same day.
"We had phenomenal prices. It was great to see a real positive vibe about the place."
