A Restoration Australia documentary crew followed Shannon and Liza Boyer as they worked on a four bedroom Victorian manor house "The Lawns".
The timber home was built in 1871 and producers have described what the Boyers started with as a "delightfully disheveled property" bought for $1.6 million.
"It's part of the original few blocks of Kyneton," Shannon said.
"So when they first set up the town in 1836 they subdivided a section and this land is part of that."
Shannon grew up in Kyneton and wanted to take a "very historical approach" with the project.
It is a theme the show appears to have picked up on.
An ABC1 promo states that the Boyers had vowed to use only the most authentic methods and materials.
"Shannon, a self-confessed perfectionist, with exceptionally high standards, won't be cutting any corners or sparing any expense," it reads.
"Restoration Australia's host Anthony Burke accompanies the Boyers on their quest to set an example of what true restoration looks like. But have they set the bar too high...?"
Shannon is not sure what to expect from the episode but is looking forward to seeing it.
He found having cameras following each twist and turn a positive experience.
"You get to know them, just like a friend. You forget they're there sometimes," Shannon said.
The Boyers bought The Lawns in 2018 and had already reslated a disintegrated roof by the time that filming began.
"When we first purchased the property it was in a very parlous state, so we had to get stuck in right away before it gave us grief," he said.
The ABC contacted Shannon around the time that interior plastering work was beginning on the home.
Crews followed restoration work on the original servant's quarters, outhouses, pantry and other projects.
And unlike many who take on ambitious renovation projects, Shannon said he would do it again.
He has a long history of renovation projects, though he had never done anything that demanded such attention to historic detail.
"I've never done one like that [The Lawns] before, and I might never do one like it again, to be honest," Shannon said.
"The opportunity might not come up. To take that approach again, it would need to be a significant house."
The Restoration Australia episode airs on ABC1 at 7.40am on Sunday.
It will then be available on ABC iview.
