After missing out on the event this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Madison will celebrate its 50th anniversary from March 11-13.
"As we're celebrating our 50th year we are aiming to have a few special additions to the event, as well as the usual Hall of Fame function and our men's and women's feature races," BIM secretary Rik McCaig said.
The usual track events, which includes men's and women's gift and 400m running races, are also on the cards.
Given the current and prospective circumstances surrounding international travel, McCaig said it was unlikely the usual European contingent of riders would compete.
"Unfortunately we don't believe we'll have several of the international riders come across from Europe," he said.
"However, we are hoping to see New Zealand riders compete as well as more Australians.
"Each year we knock back good-quality riders, especially up-and-coming stars, but this year there will be more opportunity for them to compete."
Planning for 2022 has already been vastly different to previous years as there are the obvious requirements of COVID-19 safe plans.
"We've put together a COVID plan and we've got plenty to keep building towards, including working with the council to deliver the event," McCaig said.
"We're very confident and excited that we have a great event in the works."
The Bendigo International Madison is an annual event held at the Tom Flood Sports Centre.
The men's madison event has been won by some of the country's best cyclists, including gold medal winning Olympians Scott McGrory and Brett Aitken.
The BIM has launched a new communications platform for fans, competitors and anyone wanting to stay up to date with the latest announcements.
