After finishing the interruption-marred season in equal second position on the ladder alongside Bendigo Thunder, West's enthusiasm to get back-to-business in 2022 couldn't be higher.
"The playing group we had this year was great and showed strong development throughout the course of the season," West said.
"Everyone embraced the team, including our club, which makes me feel great to be the coach of a strong cultured team which has dedicated players."
West has years of experience as a coach including stints at North Bendigo and Strathfieldsaye.
However, despite being involved with football for several years, each season he continues to learn how he can make himself an even better coach.
"This year it was about going back to the fundamentals and ensuring I coached the basics the best I possibly could," he said.
West said the team's performance which saw them finish equal second on points to the Thunder was testament to Eaglehawk's growth within the CVFLW.
"The girls are like sponges and take in so much information," he said.
"The club finished on the bottom of the ladder in its first year in the league and then to come back in 2021 and finish equal second is a remarkable achievement.
"It was definitely a good year for us. We lost a couple of matches which we learnt from and we won some which we learnt from.
"The standard of the competition is jumping leaps and bounds and we're committed to the challenge of ensuring we are competitive in the long-term."
CVFLW recently announced the league's end of season accolades, with several Hawks receiving recognition for strong performance on the field.
Four of the Hawk's players - Lily den Houting, Eillish Cumming, Grace Edlin and Charlotte Edlin - were recognised in the league's High St X-Ray Team of the Year.
"Grace is someone who always plays great footy as well as Charlotte who had a really strong year," West said.
"Eillish was by far one of the biggest hard-ball players all season.
"For all of them to be on the team is a real credit as players and also for the Hawks to show we have the foundations to be a very successful club."
In addition to announcing the Team of the Year, CVFLW recently named its best and fairest winner with minor premiership side Golden Square's playing-coach Carly Ladson taking the honour.
Hawk's den Houting was the Hawks' top-polled player and tied for fifth on 11 votes.
"Lily is an absolute pleasure to coach as no matter what she always seeks feedback with the primary goal to improve her ability," West said.
"She trains hard and puts in the effort to get along with all the girls.
"Footy is as simple as you only get out of it what you put into it and for her to be in the top-five on the count is a great success."
