Australia's national squad finished on top in the hard-fought Oceanic derby with the Opals getting the job done by 11 points over the Tall Ferns.
Both teams put 20 points on the board during the first-quarter, but for the remainder of the match in Amman Jordan, the Opals slowly pulled away.
In the second-quarter they put a further 20 points on the board to the Tall Ferns' 14 to take a six-point lead into the main break.
Boosted by more accurate shooting, which included shooting threes at 55 per cent throughout the game, they were able to stretch the margin by a further three points ahead of the final-quarter.
Tall Ferns remained within striking distance for much of the match but in the fourth quarter the Opals remained composed to see out the game, the team's third victory of the tournament with the final scores at 72-61.
Opals captain Sam Whitcomb put up an impressive 29 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Bendigo Braves player Abbey Wehrung put three on the board, with five rebounds and four assists.
Spirit star Mary Goulding, who was in action for the Tall Ferns, scored seven points, took four rebounds and made two assists.
Opals now progress to the semi-finals stage of the tournament on Saturday to face a challenging clash against four-time defending champion Japan.
Meanwhile, China and Korea will face-off in the other semi-final match.
The championship match will be held on Sunday.
