Goornong harness racing driver Peter Salathiel remains in the Intensive Care Unit at Bendigo Hospital after being involved in a three-horse fall at Lord’s Raceway on Sunday.Salathiel, 53, suffered a collapsed lung and broken ribs at the Bendigo Harness Racing Club trials. The other driver injured in the fall – 34-year-old Nigel Milne from Toolleen – was discharged after being treated for a broken radius and bruised ribs.A third driver, Bruce Morgan, was also involved in the accident, but he escaped unscathed.BHRC general manager David Aldred spoke with the head of the ICU yesterday and he was told Salathiel had improved.“They said he improved slightly overnight (Sunday) and is doing as well as can be expected,” Aldred said.“They’re obviously concerned about him enough to keep him in the ICU. He’ll be in hospital for a while.”Aldred said Milne had “a much better prognosis” and did not require plaster for his broken radius, which should heal itself.Salathiel’s horse, Sherwood, was in second position when it fell and brought down Supreme Village – driven by Morgan – and Dieing Secret which Milne was driving. The only horse not to fall in the trial was leader Pentall Cracker, driven by Trevor Patching. All the horses escaped the fall without major injuries.
