When Mr Cooper's lawyer told the magistrate he would not be making an application for bail, the 23-year-old lashed out at his representative.
Mr Cooper called his lawyer an "f****** dog" and a "piece of sh**" before telling the court he was sacking his lawyer.
When the magistrate told Mr Cooper to be quiet, the 23-year-old picked up a chair in the custody room and threw it at the video camera.
The screen at the station was allegedly damaged in the incident.
Mr Cooper was remanded in custody. He is due to return to the Bendigo Magistrates' Court next month.
