The first phase of the unsafe2safe trial will provide $5000 to 50 young drivers aged between 18 and 25 in order to replace their unsafe, older cars.
It aims to help reduce the crash risk and road toll among one of Victoria's most at-risk groups.

"Young regional Victorians are over-represented in road trauma and this program is another way we can protect our most vulnerable drivers," Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan said.
Drivers are at greatest risk of being involved in a crash in their first few years of solo driving with young regional Victorians driving old, unsafe cars are 15 times more likely to be killed in crashes compared with the state average.
"This incentive will help increase the safety of our youngest and most inexperienced drivers," Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards said.
The unsafe2safe targeted program is part of the state government's Road Safety Action Plan under the Victorian Road Safety Strategy 2021-2030.
The plan focuses on aiding groups that are over-represented in road trauma.
Expressions of interest for unsafe2safe are open until October 20. For more details visit www.engage.vic.gov.au/unsafe2safe
