THERE will be no finals played in any AFL Central Victoria competitions this year after North Central became the last league to officially call off its 2021 season.
The abandonment of the North Central seasons for football, netball and hockey were among an avalanche of cancellations across Thursday and Friday as Heathcote District followed by Loddon Valley, Central Victorian Women, Bendigo Juniors and Bendigo all did the same.
"After a COVID-interrupted season where it has been stop-start and with the present restrictions not being lifted until Thursday, September 23, the board was left with little other option than to cancel the season without a final being played," NCFL chairman Tim Lockhart said.
"A special thankyou to the North Central Netball Association, North Central Hockey Association and their clubs, volunteers and players for their co-operation. Also to the Bendigo Umpires Association and the umpires who were appointed to matches this year.
"We will now work towards season 2022 and look forward to working with seeing all associated with community sport back bigger and better."

The NCFL will proceed with its Feeny Medal and other perpetual awards at a date yet to be determined, but hasn't announced whether it will award minor premierships to the teams that finished on top of the ladder.
The four teams that topped the NCFL ladders are Sea Lake Nandaly (seniors), St Arnaud (reserves), Boort (under-16) and Donald (under-13).
The North Central Netball Association will recognise its teams that finished on top as minor premiers:
A grade - Wedderburn.
B grade - Donald.
C grade - Donald.
16-under A - Donald.
16-under B - Boort.
13-under - Donald.
"The 2021 season has proved to be a very challenging year, but has highlighted how much we love and miss our chosen sport of netball," NCNA president Susie Lockhart said.
"The NCNA executive wish to thank all the clubs for their support, patience, persistence and contribution to the 2021 season."
The NCNA vote count will be live streamed at a date to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, the North Central Hockey Association is awarding premierships to its teams that finished on top of the ladder as per a meeting earlier in the year.
NCHA premiers:
Men - Boort.
Women - Birchip-Watchem.
Under-12 - Boort.
Under-12 - St Arnaud.
The NCHA best and fairest awards will be streamed this Thursday from 7.30pm.
"We are extremely lucky to have such passionate members who have navigated multiple lockdowns and changes to the season and dedicated so much time in an attempt to complete the season," the NCHA said in announcing its cancellation.
"We look forward to continuing our great relationship with the NCFL and NCNA to ensure our unique association returns bigger and better in 2022."
