The Bendigo Winegrowers Association has advised the unpredictability of the COVID-19 event climate has created an unmanageable risk when delivering the event within its traditional format, originally scheduled for October 9.
However, the extended program of Bendigo Uncorked Week, a range of smaller wine focused events planned from October 1 to 10 is still progressing forward, as the association awaits the state government announcement regarding regional restrictions.
"Whilst the unpredictability of the main program event has become financially non-viable, we are hopeful that we will deliver an excellent week of boutique wine events," Association president Wes Vine said.
"This year's program registration was the biggest we have ever seen, with more than 14 events originally registered over the 10 days."
The program is the most diverse to date, including a Drink Pink rosé dinner, a red wine blending workshop, tastings at Star Cinema, new vintage launches and Meet the Maker events.
Other stories:
"We are hopeful that we will be able to deliver at least eight of the original ideas, including 'Heritage Re- Corked', a streamlined replacement for the October 9 event," Mr Vine said.
"We know how important sales and revenue are right now to our winery members, but also to our restaurant and hospitality friends, and we're doing our best to support them."
The evolving Bendigo Uncorked Week event program can be viewed at www.bendigowine.org.au from September 6, and tickets will be available for each event as restrictions are updated.
All ticket purchases made for the original, now cancelled Heritage Uncorked October 9 event will be refunded in full.
