The EVCA has released its division one and two fixtures for the upcoming season - the key question though is just how close to what has been announced will play out on the field?
EVCA president Ron Gray says the association and its clubs will need to be prepared to be agile and flexible in dealing with any potential interruptions to the season brought on by more COVID lockdowns.
The return of two-day cricket comes on the back of the EVCA playing a season entirely of one-day matches over 18 rounds in 2020-21 due to the uncertainty around the impact COVID could have.
"The clubs voted overwhelmingly to return to two-day cricket, so we've provided that opportunity," Gray said on Wednesday.
"We obviously understand the situation and, hopefully, we don't have to make any alterations.
"But if we do, it's a matter of being flexible and having contingency plans in place to deal with whatever comes. It doesn't matter what structure we come up, I'm sure we'll have scenarios thrown at us that we'll have to work our way through."
The 2021-22 season is scheduled to hit off on Saturday, October 9, with a round of one-day matches featuring three clashes - Spring Gully v Axe Creek, Mandurang v Emu Creek and Marong v Sedgwick. California Gully, West Bendigo and United all have byes in round one.
The season features 12 rounds - nine two-day and three one-day - semi-finals on the weekend of March 12-13 and grand finals on the weekend of March 19-20.
Emu Creek is the reigning division one premier after beating United by 20 runs in last season's grand final.
