The talented Alex Ashwood-trained two-year-old took on and beat the older horses for the first time in his career and did it convincingly by scoring a tough win over Changover Girl and Dealmaker, with the $2,20 favourite Codys Colt back in eighth.
Ashwood, who is basing himself at the Bendigo Harness Racing Training Centre, could not have been happier with the two-year-old's response to his only non-win after finishing fourth at Tabcorp Park Melton on July 31.
"He's a nice horse in the making, he's a very natural, easy-going two-year-old, which makes my job a lot easier to train and to drive him," he said.
"He's got all the right attributes to go on and do a better job."
The daughter of Betting Line and Westgate Chick started his career with a pair of wins in Ashwood's native Tasmania in March and April before a spell.
It's a move that the young trainer-driver insists has plenty of benefits and will be a feature of his training repertoire moving forward.
"I've found the trip over to Tassie with a two-year-old makes them better horses in the future - it makes them a bit surer a lot quicker as a horse," he said.
"It seems to season them a lot quicker.
"It was easier competition over there, but the way he did it was pretty impressive.
"I've always known he has had handy enough ability.
"It's never an easy test for a two-year-old, racing second-up after a spell against horses that have already had 70 and 60 starts, so he did a great job.
"We'll get ready for the Vicbreds later in the year and then he will probably go for a spell."
An ultra-promising start to his training career for Ashwood has yielded 10 wins from 19 starters (ahead of Thursday night's meeting at Mildura), with the five-year-old gelding Kick It To Jack accounting for three of those wins.
