MITIAMO'S star SANFL recruit Carl Nicholson has been granted an exemption to play in the Loddon Valley league finals after a knee injury in his Superoos' debut game restricted him to just one home and away match for the club.
The Superoos had their initial request for Nicholson to have an injury eligibility exemption denied, but the league confirmed on Friday it has since been approved.
However, Nicholson is among the Superoos' quartet of Queensland-based players who Mitiamo will have to navigate the availability of throughout the finals dependent on interstate travel restrictions and quarantine requirements.
Premiership ruckman Michael I'Anson, star midfielder Lee Dale and Dylan Mutu are also Queensland-based Mitiamo players.
The versatile Nicholson, a premiership wingman with Glenelg in 2019, played more than 100 SANFL games.
He joined the Superoos' mid-season, but injured his knee in his first game against Pyramid Hill on May 22 and hasn't played since, therefore not playing enough games to qualify for the finals.
However, the Superoos lodged an injury exemption submission to have Nicholson eligible to play in the finals, which LVFNL chairman Simon Tuohey confirmed has been granted.
"The exemption has been granted, but no different to the situation with the Melbourne players, all the protocols must be followed in terms of the requirements based on there (Queensland) and here," Tuohey said.
Having finished on top of the ladder following an undefeated 12-0 home and away season, the reigning premier Superoos have the first weekend of the finals off.
The finals get under way on Saturday at Serpentine between Marong and Bridgewater in the qualifying final.
On Sunday, Pyramid Hill and Bears Lagoon-Serpentine will fight for survival in the elimination final at Marong.
Unfortunately, regional restrictions will again prevent spectators from attending this weekend's finals.
Entry tickets have been distributed to each club for those required to participate in games - players, coaches and team officials.
There will be no admittance to venues for anyone without an entry ticket.
"If you don't have a ticket, you won't be able to get in... simple as that," Tuohey said.
"It's obviously a tough situation for everyone, but we're following guidelines that have been given to us and that is unless you're playing or have a job for the day then you're not allowed in.
"We're trying to manage the situation the best we can with the restrictions in place."
