THE Bendigo Football-Netball League will lose another round of competition this weekend as the latest Victorian lockdown further compromises the season.
But just how compromised has the fixture become when factoring in the opponents that teams will miss out on playing twice given there are now four called off rounds - three due to restrictions and one by choice last week when the league opted not to-restart without spectators - with the prospect of more delays still to come?
With this weekend by the wayside, it now leaves a maximum of just three rounds to play should the BFNL - which last played on July 10 - stick to its timeline of a grand final on Friday, September 24.
The four lost rounds have created a major discrepancy in terms of season fairness when looking at how a team such as South Bendigo has been affected compared to Kyneton.
Fifth-placed South Bendigo has avoided return bouts against the four teams above it - Gisborne (4th), Sandhurst (2nd), Strathfieldsaye (1st) and Golden Square (3rd).
Those four sides have a combined 35 wins, with the Bloods - who are hunting their first finals berth since 2012 - having gone 1-3 against those teams in the first half of the season, with their only win coming against Gisborne.
While the Bloods miss games against four opponents with 35 wins between them, Kyneton's four missed opposition have just 15 wins combined, highlighting the discrepancy caused by the abandoning of games.
The seventh-placed Tigers have missed out on second games against the two bottom sides in Castlemaine and Maryborough - who Kyneton defeated earlier in the season to record two of its three wins - as well as a clash with sixth-placed Eaglehawk and home game scheduled this Saturday against arch-rival Gisborne that sits fourth.
Second-placed Sandhurst's four missed opponents have combined for just 16 wins, while the four teams Gisborne would have played have 17 wins between them.
The 35 games combined by South Bendigo's missed opponents are six more than the 29 games the four teams winless Castlemaine would have played, including top two sides Strathfieldsaye and Sandhurst, while Kangaroo Flat has avoided return bouts against the three top sides, which also includes Golden Square.
