The Hawks showed that the recent lockdown did little to hinder their momentum as they resumed with a clinical performance on the Ibises home soil.
Tatura went into the game just three points behind the top-of-the-table Hawks, but their championship hopes took a dive as the Borough found the back of the net five times.
The Hawks got the ball rolling with an Alex Caldow goal after 12 minutes before Tatura skipper Cody Sellwood tied the scores five minutes later.
Borough veteran Brent Hamblin regained the lead for Eaglehawk midway through the first half before Jesse Parker gave his side a crucial two-goal lead moments before half-time.
The Borough sealed the three points when Jesse Matthews converted a penalty 12 minutes into the second half.
Caldow's second goal for the day was cancelled out by Sellwood's second for Tatura.
Tatura had conceded more than one goal in a game this season just once before Sunday's clash with the Hawks.
"I thought it was one of our best performances of the season,'' Eaglehawk coach Keegan Smyth said.
"Tatura has had some really good results this year and that's the first time we've played them, so I was unsure what to expect.
"We probably ran out of steam a bit in the second half, but I thought we were well oragnised and played pretty well.
"A 5-2 scoreline, happy days."
Smyth said the Hawks had plenty of improvement left in them.
"Our front three are starting to combine together really well,'' he said.
"We're getting to that stage where we've got good depth. I'm pretty confident that we have the best team in the league.
"We haven't been together that long, so our challenge is to find that consistency and get ready for the run home."
Strathdale moved into second place on the ladder - five points behind Eaglehawk, but with a game in hand on the Hawks - after it thrashed La Trobe Uni 9-0.
The Blues had six players find the back of the net in an imposing performance.
Hayden Dealy and Jake Kelly scored two goals each for the Blues, while Kieran McKemmish, Daniel Purdy, Sam Farr, Kane Goldsworthy and Alastair Merkel added their names to the scoring sheet.
It was the Blues' first win in three games and kept them within touching distance of the rampant Hawks.
Spring Gully United soared into fourth place on the ladder on the back of its 2-0 win over Golden City.
The young Reds didn't play their best, but they did enough to get the three points and move to 16 points from nine games - just two points behind third-placed Tatura and one point clear of fifth-placed Epsom.
A fine strike from Darius Thomas opened the scoring and a goal from Dylan A'Vard proved to be enough for the Reds.
"Five wins from nine games, so I think the boys are doing a great job,'' Spring Gully coach Tony McQuillan said.
"Their work rate and the commitment they've put in...I think they deserve to be where they are."
"Darius (Thomas) scored a cracker and we were unlucky not to get a third goal. It was a great team effort."
"We've got two big weeks coming up against Strathdale and Eaglehawk, so that will be a big challenge for us. It will be a great experience for the boys."
WOMEN
La Trobe Uni took care of business against another title contender in Strathdale on Sunday, but the Blues are confident the tables could be turned in the finals.
La Trobe Uni won 3-1, the Eagles' 11th win from 12 games this season, to consolidate top spot and open up an eight-point break on fourth-placed Strathdale.
Eagles' star Holly Boldiston put Strathdale on the back foot with a goal in the eighth minute.
She made it two goals for the day just before half-time to have the Eagles well-placed at the break.
Lucy Teale gave Strathdale a spark when she scored in the opening stages of the second-half.
However, the Eagles put the game away after a superb long-range strike from the classy Wakilele Ezard.
"After going down 2-0 in the first half we made some adjustments at the break and the game was quite close in the second half,'' Strathdale coach Wayne Robertson said.
"La Trobe's third goal was quite outstanding from a fair way out, so I thought the game in general play was quite a bit closer than the 3-1 score would suggest.
"La Trobe is a very good team, they have a lot of pace and Holly (Boldiston) is quite outstanding.
"We don't fear them. I thought the game was close for 60 minutes and we'll be better for the experience.
"It was disappointing to lose, but I thought we learned a lot from the experience."
Strathfieldsaye Colts United is in second place on the ladder - five points behind La Trobe - after it thrashed Epsom 21-0.
Skipper Rebecca Berry scored 11 of Colts 21 goals to take her season tally to a league best 43 - two ahead of Boldiston.
Hannah Fox scored four times in Colts' commanding performance.
Spring Gully United is back inside the top three thanks to a 9-1 win over a plucky Golden City.
The game was still in the balance at half-time after Chelsea Laing scored for City to make the scoreline 2-1.
The Reds found their mojo in the second half and scored seven times in 34 minutes to blow the Rams away.
The star of the show for Spring Gully was young gun Frances Leach, who scored four times.
Paige Condor and Pearl Stevens scored two goals each for the Reds.
Eaglehawk continued its rise up the ladder with a 3-1 away win over Tatura.
Grace Edlin, Charlotte Edlin and Shannon Fox did the damage for the Hawks against the gallant Ibises.
Tara Bray found the back of the net for Tatura.
Eaglehawk is in sixth place on the ladder with 20 points - now just six points outside of the top four.
Shepparton South is one point in front of the Borough in fifth place.
South put five goals past the Moama-Echuca Border Raiders.
Shepparton United (19 points) kept within striking distance of the top four by defeating Swan Hill 3-0.
The BASL is still to decide if it will stick with the top eight teams qualifying for the finals or if it shortens the finals to top four.
