BENDIGO Pioneers girls captain Tara Slender has further strengthened her AFLW draft credentials by being named an under-19 All-Australian.
Slender earned a spot on the interchange of the All-Australian team following the AFLW Under-19 Championships in which she represented Victoria Country.
"A left-footer who is strong overhead and athletic, averaged 10 disposals and 2.5 marks in the championships. A girl not to mess with, she is also a seven-time national champion in karate," is how Slender's performance was described in the team announcement.
Slender, 18, is a member of the AFLW Academy and later this month along with Pioneers' team-mate Elizabeth Snell will have a further chance to impress recruiters at the Victorian AFLW Draft Combine on July 18.
The AFLW Draft will be held on Tuesday, July 27.
Victoria Country beat South Australia by 15 points and Queensland by 54 points in its AFLW Under-19 Championships matches, and also defeated Victoria Metro by 24 points in a lead-up challenge match.
Slender was one of Victoria Country's best in the victory over Queensland.
Key forward Slender has been playing football since she was in Grade 6 at Strathfieldsaye Primary School.
Meanwhile, Bendigo Pioneers' duo Cooper Hamilton and Sam Conforti were both part of the Victoria Country team that went down to Victoria Metro in an Under-19 Challenge match at Windy Hill on Friday.
Victoria Metro won 15.15 (105) to 7.7 (49) in a precursor to the upcoming AFL Under-19 Championships.
