In what was a close match with the scores neck-and-neck for the first three quarters, it was in the final term that the Hawks tightened their grip to secure the 11-goal win over Storm, final scores 59-48.
Hawks coach Gayle Annan said strong cohesion in the mid-court paved the way to victory.
"Our mid-court and goallers connected well and were cohesive all game," Annan said.
"Our defence also did a tremendous job from start to finish, but what took us away in the final quarter was that cohesion in the middle.
"Overall each individual played their best which was achieved with strong communication, overall as coach it was very pleasing to see."
Annan was satisfied the squad was starting to show strong signs at both ends of the court at the halfway mark of the season.
"Bringing everyone together this year in A-Grade with a new coach has taken a lot of work and week-by-week we've been slowly building," Annan said.
"On Saturday from one end of the court to the other, everyone was strong and focused.
"It's definitely a good time in the season for us to start putting it all together."
Meanwhile in the other A-Grade BFNL matches, Kyneton had a tough home match against Sandhurst.
The scores were near level at the end of the opening quarter, but come the second the Dragons dug in to see out the match in true reigning premier style.
They increased the lead to nine points at half-time, stretched it even further to 14 at three-quarter time and out to 21 by the final siren, final scores 49-28.
Gisborne doubled the scoring efforts of Maryborough with a convincing 30-goal win to remain in second position on the ladder.
Bulldogs had the jump on the visitors from the get-go and continued to break away from the Magpies at each break to secure the comfortable 60-30 win.
South Bendigo were at home against Kangaroo Flat but were unable to contain the visitors in what resulted in a 35-goal loss, final scores 64-29
Roos are showing all the right signs to be 2021's prime flag contenders with an unbeaten 7-0-1 record atop the ladder.
After falling short as runner-up to Sandhurst in the 2019 season grand final, this year the Roos have shown they mean nothing but business.
They have the bye next week, but the week after will host Eaglehawk for another challenging game.
Golden Square had the bye in round eight.
