Strong winds were reported in the Macedon Ranges throughout Friday with a 50 per cent chance of rain forecast for Saturday.

Victoria SES deputy chief officer Alistair Drayton provided an update on the weather forecast.

"Unfortunately everyone would be aware of the weather's that's passed over (the Macedon Ranges right down across through to the Dandenong's) and there's some significant damage in some of those areas," he said.

"The importance over the coming days is... about the need to take care in some of those areas.

"The weather coming up in the next 24 hours will see winds slightly increasing from 30 to 50 kilometers an hour and increasing overnight until Saturday morning.

"Rainfall is also going to be widespread across these impacted areas with two to 10 millimeters of rain across the Macedon area and 25 to 40 millimeters of rain over far east Gippsland."

Bendigo SES volunteer Russell Harley has been giving up his time for the clean-up efforts out of Kyneton fire station and will return over the weekend to help manage the wild weather on the way.

"Woodend SES put a call out for more volunteers on Wednesday because they're expecting bad weather and high winds until Saturday," he said.

"There was a lot of tree damaged last time that could come down this time.

"They want rooftop and chainsaw experience and that's ideal for me. I've been deployed quite a few times and it's always good to help out."
