A Bendigo police spokeswoman said police were in the "early stages of the investigation" and would provide more details in the coming days.
The helicopter was again heard by residents in daylight hours on Tuesday.
Earlier: A police helicopter assisted local police with an investigation on Monday night.
The helicopter could be heard by residents in the areas of Maiden Gully, Golden Square and Eaglehawk.
Bendigo Highway Patrol Senior Sergeant Ian Brooks said confirmed the aerial support was helping police locate a stolen car.

"It was assisting some patrol units and detectives in attempting to locate stolen vehicle that was being driven erratically," he said.
"We were lucky enough last night that the chopper was available and could come up (from Melbourne). It is another enforcement tool for us."
Senior Sergeant Brooks said the stolen car had been seen around Bendigo in the last couple of days.
"The public has been good in letting us know where the car is but the people (in the stolen car) are just refusing to stop," he said.
"The aerial platform is able to follow (suspects) safely and reduce the risks of them hurting trying to get away."
