OPPORTUNITY will be knocking for Kangaroo Flat and Castlemaine to break through for their first wins of the Bendigo Football-Netball League season if the competition can re-start next weekend.

The BFNL on Friday released a revised 2021 fixture based on the past two weekends of matches not being able to being played due to Victorian COVID lockdown restrictions still halting senior community sport.

However, determined to still complete 18 rounds of home and away games, plus four weeks of finals - six rounds are already played - the BFNL has a re-jigged fixture based on a re-start date of June 12 next Saturday.

The revised structure culminates with the grand final now having been earmarked for Friday, September 24, utilising the AFL grand final eve public holiday, with the league taking the opportunity to try something new.

The re-working of the BFNL fixture now means the order of rounds won't run concurrently for the remainder of the season.

For example, the June 12 Queen's Birthday long weekend re-start point should state government and AFL Victoria approval be given would be round nine.

That would be then followed by round seven on June 19 and round eight on June 26, which would complete a full set of matches where all teams have played each other once in one of the priorities for the BFNL.

Round 10 would then be played on July 3, which was originally scheduled as the annual general bye weekend, before rounds 12 to 18 would be played from July 10 to August 21.

The home and away season would then culminate with round 11 games on August 28 before the finals begin on September 4.

By picking up the season next Saturday from round nine it presents an opportunity for the BFNL's two winless teams - Kangaroo Flat and Castlemaine - to get their first victories of the season, with the two battlers fixtured to clash at Dower Park.

At the other end of the ladder, the competition resumption would feature a huge QEO clash between flag contenders Sandhurst (1st) and Gisborne (3rd), plus another tussle featuring two premiership aspirants with Golden Square (5th) hosting Eaglehawk (2nd) to create extra anticipation for the season to resume.
