She has called for state authorities to investigate constituent's concerns that trucks and other vehicles are damaging the sides of Heathcote-Rochester Road.
The road connects the Midland Highway and Bendigo-Murchison Road.
"A safety audit of this section of the Heathcote-Rochester Road is urgently needed because the road is a major route for heavy vehicles transporting freight as well as those using [a] quarry, and it is also home to numerous wineries popular with tourists," Ms Lovell said.
"Locals are concerned about the current condition of the road and the minister needs to listen to these concerns and identify upgrades that are needed to improve safety for all road users."
More news:
Government minister for roads and road safety Ben Carroll said expert road safety crews were continuously carrying out road safety, maintenance and hazard inspections "across the entire arterial regional road network - including on Heathcote-Rochester Road at least twice a week."
He said temporary signage was installed in June 2020 to warn drivers that the speed limit had been reduced to 80km/h and that the sides of the roads could be rough.
The signage is still in place.
"We know that safe and reliable roads are critical to regional Victorian communities, particularly when it comes to our freight industry and that supports local economies - that's why we've invested more than any government ever before on regional road maintenance," Mr Carroll said.
The Department of Transport's Loddon Mallee director Melanie Hotton confirmed specialist crews were carrying out inspections regularly.
"These visits cover road safety and maintenance check," she said.
