Victorian coronavirus lockdown: V/line, public transport unchanged for essential workers

Under the chief health officer's lockdown restrictions which are now enforced, there are only five reasons to leave your home; for shopping for necessary goods and services, caregiving or compassionate reasons, essential work or permitted education, exercise for two hours or to get vaccinated.

A statement from public transport company V/Line said the state government's restrictions of mandatory mask wearing will be enforced on all services.

"The public transport network will continue to operate to a normal timetable to support essential workers or those who need to travel for one of the essential reasons," the statement said.

"Face masks will need to be worn indoors and outdoors; whenever you leave home.

"We will not be limiting the number of people on board our trains and coaches because this is likely to cause crowding in other areas such as platforms and coach stops."

V/Line listed a number of actions passengers could take to remain safe including;

"High-touch surfaces on the network such as door handles, myki touch points and handrails are being cleaned regularly, as well as nightly deep-cleaning of our trains, coaches and stations to help keep passengers safe," the statement said.

"This increased cleaning program will be in place for as long as necessary."

A Qantas spokeswoman confirmed there would be no changes to the four flights entering and leaving Bendigo each day under the new lockdown measures.

"There will be no impacts to regional scheduling at this stage but may be some over the next few days," the spokeswoman said.

"In terms of requirements, state governments make rules around this and we advise people to check what the latest requirements are before flying."

Bendigo Tramways announced the service would close until further notice in line with the current government regulations.
