Four new cases of coronavirus confirmed as Melbourne cluster grows to nine

These four cases are household contacts of the fifth case confirmed on Tuesday morning in the Whittlesea cluster.

The Department of Health confirmed the four positive test results.

"This afternoon, the department has been notified of four new cases," a spokesperson said.

"They are all family contacts of the fifth case announced this morning, bringing the total of cases in this outbreak to nine."

The greater Melbourne region will enter the following restrictions from 6pm on Tuesday:

The restrictions will be in place until at least June 4.

The latest cases bring the state's total to 17 active cases of coronavirus, with nine cases in the cluster.

The coronavirus cases in the northern Melbourne cluster are linked to a man who acquired the virus while in hotel quarantine in Adelaide earlier this month.
