Kennington's Ross Park reopens after asbestos clean-up

The City of Greater Bendigo said the park on Steane Street was ready after new trees were planted and new grass laid.

"Thanks for your patience during the park's closure as we completed remediation works to remove non-friable asbestos," the council said on social media.

The park was closed to the public as a precaution on January 25 after the discovery was made.

Council staff had recently completed an upgrade of the park.

During February the council said tests suggested the asbestos was "non-friable".

"The environmental hygienist's investigations found there was no material within close proximity of the actual play space, although materials containing asbestos were scattered across the reserve," council director Brian Westley said at the time.

The clean-up started in late March and was expected to cost at least $80,000.
