Before the match had even begun it was tipped to be a close battle as the two teams have a long history of tough competitive encounters.
Despite the never-say-die efforts of the Miners, the Warriors were able to defeat the hosts 20-7.
Miners vice-captain David Gudge was hit hard in the first few minutes, and after being blue carded by the referee the Miners had a slow start to the match.
Once again the set piece was impressive, with flanker Matt Boyle stealing Melton's ball at the line out on several occasions, but in open play the Miners forward pack were slow to the ruck and at times greedy with the ball.
After a penalty kick to the corner and team push in a rolling maul, hooker Jakeb Sheahan crossed the line for his maiden try for the Miners.
Openside flanker Wame Ratawake made a number of line breaks, but lacked support. Big prop Joe Maiai lead from up front carrying the ball hard and centre Jose Situlia once again upped the tempo of an undermanned backline, bending Melton's defensive line.
The next 60 minutes were contested closely, but twice Melton were able to score converted tries against the run of play.
Even after spending 10 minutes deep in the Warrior's 22, Bendigo were unable to score.
Ultimately, basic skill errors, ill discipline at the breakdown, injury and two blood bins cost the Miners in a close, hard fought match against their longtime rival.
Among the best players for the Miners were flankers Ratawake and Boyle, full back Brian Valaio, prop Maiai, centre Situlia and the old bull, lock Rod Kirk, played a great game however is still adjusting to some of the new laws conceding a few penalties.
The Miners will buckle down this week at training in preparation for another game on their home turf at Epsom Huntly Recreation Reserve.
They will host the Brimbank Bucks on Saturday at 1.35pm.
The Bucks head into the third round after a 48-36 win over Kiwi Hawthorn in round two.
