COVID-19 restrictions might have forced the Friends of the Bendigo Botanic Gardens into hibernation for much of last year, but the group's plant stock continued to grow.
On Saturday, the Friends will stage a clearance sale to make room for newly propagated material.
Plants will be sold at half price, including shrubs, perennials, natives and exotic species.
The clearance sale will be in the heritage gardens, adjacent to the Samuel Gadd Centre in White Hills.
Lindy Sloan, of the Friends, said the group was resuming its activities with great enthusiasm.
Activities include assisting the botanic gardens staff with weeding.
The group was established in 2000 with the aim of working with council to promote, protect and restore the gardens.
Its usual activities were in recess for much of 2020. Ms Sloan said the Friends committee continued to meet via Zoom to ensure business matters continued smoothly.
She said Bendigo Botanic Gardens staff had tended to the plant stock the Friends had been growing in the nursery.
Ms Sloan said the propagating group, part of the Friends, had found the plant stock had been well maintained upon their return to the nursery.
"In recent years, keen gardeners have taken advantage of the very competitive prices of plants at the nursery," Ms Sloan said.
She said further bargains would be available.
"Autumn is the ideal time for planting as the warm soil allows the plants to establish well before the dormancy of winter."
The plant sale is scheduled to run from 9am - 2pm.
Entry to the gardens is via Hamelin or Scott streets.
COVID-safe practices will be in place during the sale.
