Masters football action returns to Bendigo on Sunday when the B52 Bombers play the Kerang Rams in round one of the Victorian Country Masters Australian Football season.
The season-opener hold extra significance after the 2020 season was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The boys are really looking forward to their first hit out for the season proper this Sunday against Kerang,'' new club president Paul McGrath said.
"It is evident that the season abandonment in 2020 due to COVID restrictions has made the boys itchy again and has reminded all at the club the joy that Masters footy brings to our players in terms of mental health and social well-being, something that maybe was taken for granted pre-COVID days."
Masters footy is played every second Sunday between April and August. Most of the Bombers' home games are played at the Scott Street ground in White Hills.
"We have been training in earnest for the past few months since the easing of the restrictions, and the smiles on the boys face at training, just being able to get out there and have kick with their mates, says it all I think,'' McGrath said.
"As well as being an outlet for men aged over 35, we pride ourselves on being a family friendly club where we get all of the family involved, which includes sons and daughters being able to train along with their dad, something that would not happen at too many other footy clubs.
"We are still welcoming any new players and their families to our club, with even spots to play in this Sunday's match against Kerang still available."
This season sees the B52 Bombers being co-coached by former White Hills players Brad McConnell and Adrian Dixon.
This Sunday's home match at White Hills kicks off at 12.30pm.
