More than 60 drivers were caught speeding on local roads over the Easter holiday period.

Bendigo Highway Patrol Acting Senior Sergeant Paul Gordon said it was concerning to see many people exceeding the speed limit.

"One thing that is concerning is that there were people detected exceeding the speed limit, over such a small period of time," he said.

"We are promoting safe driving on the roads, it is concerning to still see people ignoring the speed limits and travelling in excess of the speed."

Acting Senior Sergeant Paul Gordon said they conducted 1161 roadside breath tests during the operation.

He said only four drivers were found to have alcohol in their system.

"I would say it is a positive figure although it is never good to catch drink drivers but given the number of tests we did and given the small amount of positive results it is a good indication anyway," he said.

Bendigo police say they are pleased with majority of road users in the region after their Easter operation wrapped up Monday night.

Acting Senior Sergeant Paul Gordon said Operation Nexus, which started on Thursday, targeted speeding, drink- and drug-driving and mobile use.

He said police were overall pleased with the results.

"There were a few offences detected and some (injuries from) collisions but there hasn't been any fatalities in the area, which is always a really good result," he said.

Police detected a number of speed offences at the weekend, including a man who was allegedly intercepted driving at 170 kilometres an hour.

But Acting Senior Sergeant Gordan said majority of road users were doing the right thing.

"We had a couple of high range drink-drivers over the weekend, which is disappointing," he said.

"We had some random breath tests in the area over the weekend and for the amount of tests that we did, the results are pretty good.

"Traditionally Easter is a busy weekend on the roads and it was no different this year, that's for sure.

"Overall people from the area or travelling through the area were good."

Police will release further details on the operation later on Tuesday.
