The Good Friday clash between the Dragons and the Storm was evenly matched for the first two quarters but after half-time the reigning premiers found their groove to notch their first win of the year, final scores 58-34.
It was in the third quarter when the Dragons put the pressure on and broke away outscoring their opponents 21-5 to head into the fourth with a comfortable lead.
Dragons captain and wing attack Meg Williams said the team had prepared for a challenging match.
"The weather was hot which made it tough, but overall we're all stoked to be playing again," Williams said.
"Today we were playing for more than just netball, we were playing for each other.
"Especially with Shae (centre) making her debut and Heather (goal attack) returning after having a baby."
Despite the strong win, Williams said the team would continue sharpening their ability on the court for the rest of the season.
"After a year off you can't come back as perfect so we will continue to focus on ourselves and build throughout the season," Williams said.
The Storm's effort was top-notch and the squad fought until the very end.
"I am really proud of the team and especially couldn't be happier for a few of our girls who stepped up today for their senior debuts," player coach Steph Freemantle said.
"Sandhurst are a well-oiled machine and when they stepped up a gear we dropped off a little, which moving forward is something we will work on.
"However, I am so impressed with how we played."
In the A-Reserves match Sandhurst defeated Strathfieldsaye 62-14.
In the Under-17s Sandhurst defeated Strathfieldsaye 65-17.
