Kangaroo Flat Cricket Club committee member Matt Dwyer said he was hopeful the club could be successful.
If successful, Mr Dwyer said the club would paint and refresh the GA Edwards Grandstand.
"The initiative drew me because it was all about really getting a spruce up for your club," he said.
"I am hopeful but who knows what is going to happen. If we won that would be a bonus but at the end of the day there is going to be a club somewhere that will be deserving of it."
Mr Dwyer said it would be great to paint the grandstand not just for the cricket club but for the community.
"I think it's not only for the cricket club but also the footy and netball club and our facilities now are just getting better and better and to get this it would be the icing on the cake really to get it upgraded," he said.
More news:
"It would make it special for not only us but the whole community. Everyone uses this space."
"It's important to have these initiatives because the clubs really need it and if we as a club were to raise the funds ourselves that would be a huge effort."
Other shortlisted groups include Headspace Bendigo and Access Australia.
The winning group will win a supply of paint to freshen up their premise in Bendigo and also the help of an appointed tradesperson.
