The 33-year-old made the application in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
The court heard an interim intervention order was issued on January 12 this year, with the man's ex-partner listed as the protected person. The pair also have a 14-month-old child together.

On Monday evening, the man allegedly contacted the woman via text messages, telling her he was injured and that he was coming to her home.
About 8.10pm that night, the woman saw on her CCTV cameras that a vehicle was driving up to her property.
The court heard she believed it was her former partner and locked the front door.
It was alleged the man came to the door and yelled at her to open it or he would smash the door down.
The woman refused and returned to the living room, where she heard a smashing sound.
The court heard the man allegedly broke into the home through smashing a plastered wall.
The woman went to the room where her child was sleeping and the man allegedly came to her, demanding to hold their son.
The man then allegedly pulled the woman into the lounge room, grabbed her by the hair, and threw her onto the couch.

The court heard the man allegedly ripped the cables from the woman's CCTV camera system, removed the device, and left the property.
The man was arrested on Tuesday. He told police he was aware of the intervention order but that he had been in contact with his ex-partner about their child.
Prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Michael Petrov told the court police were concerned the man would intimidate the victim if released on bail.
The prosecutor said the man was an unacceptable risk of contravening bail and committing further offences.
The man, who represented himself in court, told the magistrate he had work and stable accommodation if released on bail.
The 33-year-old denied the alleged offending and said the police had no evidence to show he committed any crimes.
Magistrate Rodney Higgins denied the man bail, saying the accused did not show any exceptional reasons why he should be released.
The man was remanded in custody and is due to return to court next week.
