No bail for teen after arrest

Police allege the boy, 16, was involved in the theft of a vehicle from a Kangaroo Flat property in the early hours of Friday morning.

The boy and several co-accused teens were then alleged to have attended another address, where the children's court heard they had gone through a vehicle in the garage and attempted to gain access to the house using a set of keys.

The teens fled the scene after dogs awoke the property's occupant, police told the court.

The teens are then alleged to have attended a property in Strathfieldsaye. Police claimed two of the teens, including the 16-year-old, entered the home through an unlocked laundry door and went through a bowl of keys.

The teens left the home after the occupants became aware there was someone in the house, police alleged.

One of the occupants gave chase, the police prosecutor said, and tried to prevent the alleged intruders from leaving by striking the windscreen of the vehicle they were driving.

The court heard the teens later returned to one of the addresses they had been to earlier in the night and stole a Ford Falcon sedan.

Police claim the teens later attended a service station and made off with more than $45 worth of fuel.

CCTV footage was captured at the service station, the prosecutor said.

The two stolen vehicles were seen travelling in an erratic manner later that morning, police said.

Spring Gully was among the suburbs in which police said the vehicles were seen.

Police told the court they cancelled attempts to intercept the Ford Falcon after it was seen driving at speed, without headlights on, at Epsom.

The court heard the vehicle narrowly avoided a collision.

Two of the teens, including the 16-year-old, were allegedly later seen trying to push a stolen vehicle.

The court heard the teens attempted to cover their faces and were frantic.

Another vehicle, believed to have been stolen, was at the scene at the time.

Police said the 16-year-old and his associates were arrested at a property in the Bendigo area.

Items discovered at the scene included clothing the 16-year-old had been seen wearing in the CCTV footage, the police prosecutor said.

They also included a wallet, keys associated with the stolen vehicles and properties the teens allegedly attended, and black Fox brand gloves.

Footage on one of the boys' mobile phones showed the 16-year-old teen in a vehicle travelling at 201 kilometres an hour in the Bendigo area, the court heard.

Police opposed the 16-year-old boy's bail application, telling the magistrate there were no conditions they believed the court could make that would protect the public or the accused from offending.

The magistrate was not satisfied there were grounds to grant bail, and believed the boy would present an unacceptable risk to the community if released.

Two of the boy's co-accused teens also appeared in court, but did not make an application for bail at that time.

All three boys were remanded to re-appear in court at a later date.
