Bendigo safe space to be launched

The Bendigo Safe Community Forum and the Salvation Army Bendigo will officially launch the Bendigo Chill out Space on Friday at 10.30am.Bendigo Safe Community Forum chairperson Martyn Scrimshaw said despite only being operational for a short period of time the feedback they had received was extremely positive.He said drunken violence was still an issue in the Bendigo entertainment precinct but the space was there to provide a bit of hope, conversation and support if needed."We are going to be a long-term presence for the entertainment precinct in Bendigo," he said."We're trying to minimise harm related to excessive alcohol consumption, like violence and personal injury and help to make the entertainment precinct a little safer."The Bendigo Chill out Space is operational from 11pm-4am on Saturday nights and is manned by six volunteers.Full story in tomorrow's Bendigo Advertiser.
