A Lake Boga angler got more than he bargained for when he caught a tagged Murray cod at Kangaroo Lake in February. The cod was one of more than 10,000 released into Kangaroo Lake as yearlings since 2003.Fisheries Victoria stock various rivers and lakes across the state annually with local species to improve freshwater fishing opportunities.Fisheries Victoria executive director, Anthony Hurst said the Murray cod was released in February 2005, measuring about 28cm."The fish was recaptured on February 11, having grown to 72cm," he said."It had been at liberty for 2,178 days and grown 7.6cm per year on average."Mr Hurst encouraged anglers who caught a tagged fish to report it to Fisheries Victoria via the unique phone number and identification number on the tag. Anglers should also note the date and location of capture plus the length of the fish. For more, see tomorrow's Bendigo Advertiser.
