Top team Kangaroo Flat suffered just its second loss of the season when it went down to Inglewood by 24 shots.
The Roos now only lead second-placed Bendigo East by one point ahead of their final round clash next Monday.
While the Kangaroo Flat-Inglewood result was a shock, Golden Square's stunning defeat of Eaglehawk opened up the battle for fourth spot.
Square won by six shots to see the Hawks slip to fifth place on the ladder.
Castlemaine, who defeated Woodbury by nine shots, moved into fourth - five points ahead of Eaglehawk. The 'Maine and the Hawks play each other in the final round.
Golden Square is still in the hunt for fourth - 10 points behind Square.
Square would need to dominate Bendigo in the final round to have any chance of pinching fourth place.
