Police say the man sustained life-threatening injuries when he was struck by a white Isuzu truck while attempting to cross Napier Street.
The incident occurred shortly before 1am on Sunday.
Paramedics transported a Diggers Rest man in his 30s to Bendigo Health in a critical condition.
Other news:
He was later flown to the Alfred hospital in Melbourne in a critical condition with upper body injuries.
The driver of the truck, a 67-year-old Melton man, stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their inquiries.
Fire Rescue Victoria confirmed its crews were called to a road crash on the Midland Highway early on Sunday morning.
Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
